Our prototype, Varua, is intended to be a testing vehicle for exploring the limits of proa sailing. The hulls will be built with a 6 mm (1/4 ") Nomex core (48 kg/cu m - 3 lbs/cu ft) with a 300 gr/sq m Bi-Axial HR Carbon. This results in a skin of 1.4 kg/sq m (0.28 lbs/sq ft), even with local reinforcements and bulkheads this is going to be a very light boat.
The wingmast is foam cored where appropriate, carrying 19 sq m (205 sq ft) (205 sq ft) of sail, with the mast this totals to 22 sq m (236 sq ft).
